I know you say step away from the system. Is this another way of saying step away from the industrial-technological system?
Living in an industrial society robs us of more and more freedom. As each advance in technology is collectively accepted, we lose control in some new area.This makes us miserable as we lose personal control over our lives.
If you think about it, we don't need most of the industrial-technological system. We can use parts of it that serve us and discard parts that don't. But a shift to a different, better system, can only happen if you have a population that understands the problems with;
IE we need to understand that all of the above list are controlled by the system which is itself a glob of controlling powers. That is a theory anyway! Who knows for sure but if I am right, if you tweak the system or break a part of it, another power broker will come in to replace the part taken out.
Many in the 'resistance' optimistically think they can have their cake and eat it ie use the technology but for good, not ill. The fact is, it is just the latest frorm of the industrial society that has taken power and autonomy from humans for centuries. It is heading to a point where machines will take over more and more.
It does make me wonder if we should aim to remove the industrial society all together as it benefits from being attacked in bits, as it has built in resilience.
The idea of people even giving up one iota of it is a pipe dream at the moment anyway! Something momenteous is going to have to happen for a non industrial revolution to happen!
