What is intelligence without heart?

Even though I use AI quite often, I almost never use it while writing on SubStack. Sometimes I add an AI generated answer to a post but then I clearly state that it is AI generated. I hear claims that there are stacks that are completely AI generated and I wonder if I’d spot the fake.

This whole post has AI generated content in it, but I think it will become very clear what is created by me and what is created by AI. This post is not about AI bashing or fear mongering.

It is about a like..

Now let me tell you what happened today.

I got a notification; someone liked my note! It made me happy; someone had taken the time to read my note and even gave it a like!

I clicked on the notification to see the whole note. Upon re-reading it I liked the message, just not the way it was written. My Dutch brain has issues converting my thoughts into the correct English words. By now you are probably re-reading that last sentence with a weird Dutch accent and you think, ‘aah, now it all makes sense”.

It means ‘though luck, it is what it is’. But I guess we can all agree that helaas pindakaas sounds a lot cooler, right?

Back to the note; I decided to make some minor changes to it and I got the idea to ask ChatGPT to rewrite the post in a more simplified and modern style. Just to see what it comes up with.

For those who still believe our current system can be repaired, here’s the hard truth.

Things aren’t going to get better — they’ll keep getting worse. More scandals will come to light. More surveillance, more fake health scares, more unexplained deaths, more talk of war. More focus on migration, more attacks on certain groups, more depression, more obesity, more cancer, and more toxins in our food and environment.

This list could go on, but you see the direction.

Why will it keep getting worse? Because reality itself is being twisted until almost everything the average person believes turns out to be false. In that sense, it’s a spiritual struggle, forcing people to question what they’re part of.

And when you point the finger at others, you’ll realize most of those fingers are pointing back at you.

I had to say I was pretty impressed! Not bad at all. ChatGPT prompted me if I liked a Shakespearean interpretation so I said ‘yes please’.

To all who yet do nurse the hope that this present realm may be amended, hear ye now the grievous truth.

The wheel turneth not toward better days, but ever downward. More scandals shall break forth like sores upon the body politic; more watchful eyes of tyrant’s craft shall pry into the hearts of men; more pestilences, feigned or shadowed, shall be cried abroad; more deaths without reason shall chill the hearths of households. The drums of war shall beat in every ear, the stranger at the gate shall be made a spectre of dread, the sons of Europe shall be railed against, and with it shall wax sorrow, distemper, and corruption of the flesh. And mark me well: he who pointeth the finger in scorn shall find the greater number of his own hand accuseth none but himself.

Now you’ve made it this far, please let me share with you the original note.

For all the people still believing our current system can be fixed, here is the painful truth.

Everything will get worse and worse, more scandals will ‘surface’, more Big Brother, more fake viruses, more unexplained excess deaths, more talk and images of war, more focus on migrant problems, more white men bashing, more depression/obesity, more cancer & more poisons in our food and environment.

I am sure I missed a few but you get where I am going.

The main reason why it will get worse is manifold but one of them is because our reality has to become so distorted that almost everything the common person believes is a lie. It is sort of a spiritual battle because it forces the person to think about what he or she is participating in.

No longer will you be able to point at others without understanding most fingers in your hand will be pointing at yourself.

So, which version do you prefer? And don’t be afraid, you won’t hurt my feelings if you think the AI versions are better (even I like the Shakespeare version more then my own). You know why I don’t mind? AI can only perform with what we give it; the soulful part of the message. After that it just if-then’s itself to an output that is often workable, sometimes truly epic and sometimes plain wrong.
